Job Description Summary

Oversees the health, safety and environmental programs and processes for the facility to ensure continuous improvement; an effective accident/incident prevention program; and compliance with government regulations/requirements.

Job Description:

  • Lead the implementation of the entire health, safety and environmental programs and processes to ensure compliance with local and state/provincial regulations, internal and corporate EHS policies, objectives and targets.
  • Collaborate with the plant team to develop and implement actions that improve plant health, safety and environmental performance.
  • Conduct monthly plant workplace inspections to identify key issues and communicates and follows up on findings.
  • Maintains records of health and safety inspections, investigations, corrective and preventive actions, etc.
  • Collects HSE data/statistics and reports to the necessary internal and external (Corporate) personnel.  Ensures appropriate month end data is collected and inputted into the appropriate databases.  Communicate with corporate HSE as required.
  • Lead accident investigation and root cause analysis on all injury, property and environmental incidents.
  • Ensure corrective actions resulting from accidents, near misses, audits, inspections, risk assessments, or from other reviews, are implemented and appropriate.
  • Create and conduct all required HSE training to all employees in accordance with the applicable legislation and corporate requirements.
  • Oversee the OHSAS 18001 and ISO 14001 standards/process as the designated Representative for the systems.  Ensures audits are complete and adherence to the standard to ensure certification is maintained.
  • Acts as a liaison between the Company and external regulatory agencies.
  • Responsible for acquiring and maintaining local, state, and federal permits
  • Lead the registration, collection, and disposal of hazardous waste
  • Evaluate and analyze injuries and related trends and work with the plant team to address and minimize negative impact.
  • Lead the machine risk assessment process and ensure appropriate follow-up and implementation if necessary.
  • Develop a communication strategy for the plant team to maintain a high level of safety awareness.  Assist the plant team in developing the appropriate strategy to meet the health and safety goals of the facility.
  • All other duties assigned by Supervision.

Required Skills and Education

  • Bachelor’s Degree or Certificate required in Industrial Safety/ Engineering or related equivalent.
  • 2-5 years of experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Strong working knowledge of OHSAS / ISO standards and relevant legislation.
  • Certification as a Lead Auditor in ISO14001 and OHSAS 18001 preferred, certification can be obtained if not currently held.
  • Experience with OSHA 30 preferred.
  • Union environment experience preferred.
